[ John-John ] [ Hearing Loss ] [ Tour Cebu, PI ]
John-John...

A few years ago, I became acquainted with my wife's cousin John-John (JJ). This
was my first introduction to the deaf world. As I learned, I found out that JJ
was deaf and at age 5 never had his hearing checked. Due to his family's
financial situation, I took it upon myself to help J-J hear his first sound.

My wife took J-J to his first audio test. We then learned that John-John's
audiogram indicated that his right ear is almost deaf, but his left one had more
hope. The ideal recommended hearing aid was a bi-cross. So, there was some good
news and some bad news. The good news was that a hearing aid can help him. The
bad news was that the bi-cross was not easily found.

Mr. Manual first checked out Grandfather ears.
Showing JJ that everything was OK.

JJ's turn to be examined.
We were very happy when Belltone not only donated a Bi-Cross hearing aid, but
also was able to donated an additional 30 pairs of standard hearing aids. Along
with other donations, in February 2000, Richard Manual went to the Philippines
and took ear-molds of over a 100 children and a few adults. As Mr. Manuel gave
JJ his bi-cross and turned it on, only JJ could tell you how he felt when the
hearing aid was turned on. His huge smile and the gestures of happiness filled
this little boys face. He was hearing for his first time.

With this, how could we not want to help other deaf children experience the
same joy as seen on JJ's face.
Now our goal is to help other children and some adults in hearing for the
first time or hearing once again.
Please consider helping our cause.
Feel free in telling us your stories so we can share them with the others.

Mike
